2016 H Class Championship
Quissett Yacht Club will host the 2016 H Class Championship Regatta July 29, 30 and 31. We are expecting boats from Beverly, Buzzards, Edgartown, and Shelter Island Yacht Clubs as well as individual H Class members from various sites around Buzzards Bay. The Commodore has asked me to organize the regatta, and I agreed only because I KNOW I can count on you for much needed help.
There are a few new wrinkles this year. Most importantly, we want to bring back younger sailors who have raced in QYC and now moved to all parts of the world. Let’s think about inviting them to race in the regatta. If they need housing, we can provide it. They may need to borrow boats. One QYC member has already indicated she is willing to do that. Next, as the H Class has always done, we welcome sailors from other yacht clubs to participate. Some will bring their boats (Shelter Island), others may want to sail but need a boat to race. In that case, we will try to pair up those people with QYC members who might be willing to loan their boats. Any QYC people considering this should talk with me individually.
I’ve also asked every person in charge of a major piece of the regatta to have “apprentices” helping them. Let’s face it, no one (MYSELF INCLUDED) is getting any younger, and we need to get the next QYC generation up to speed. I will also be meeting with new QYC members to explain the regatta and how they might be involved. Let’s make this truly a yacht cub wide event!
This is a very special occasion and I look forward to interacting with many of you as time progresses.
